| Of Italian descent Colonel Enrico Fardella was a veteran of the 1848 and 1859 Italian wars of liberation and also had fought in the Crimea. As part of the 3rd Army Corps the 101st fought in the Peninsula and suffered heavily at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run. They were mustered out shortly after the debacle at Fredericksburg in December of 1862. |
