| This large cast brass ornament bears the cypher of Prince Carl II of the principality of Brunswick. Not all mercenary troops were Hessians. Other small German states also sold the services of their military to the British during the American Revolution. This rare relic was lost by a Brunswick soldier near the Saratoga battlefield in 1777. |
